Man-O-War Cay Photos

  1. Enjoyed the pictures, I can see why you feel at home there kind of reminds me of Bayfield on a smaller scale. Cabin like buildings build in a simple but functional fashion.
No real extras needed. I would assume the reality of storms that may come up effects their design. Is there any interesting history as to storm activity in the area.

  2. The Old Cemetery was washed away with many of the graves with Hurricane Betsy (1965) and so you have the "New" cemetery in which the graves are down into the stone of the island. In the photo of the old cemetery you can see there is just one memorial with the names on it although it appears that some of the grave sights still exist if you look closely.

Many of the marinas were totally destroyed in the hurricanes of 1994. It is amazing that many of the old structures in the settlements survived. Generally, the older homes and buildings are located lower in the harbor areas. I wonder how the newer homes located up with the "ocean view" will fare in the next storm.

There are a couple of marinas in the area that take boats out of the water before the storms. They are then generally safe if they get out in time. Many of the people who sail here every year just keep their boat "on the hard" at one of these marinas.
